Description
FLIR K2 Thermal Imaging Camera: Built for Firefighting Excellence
The FLIR K2 is an entry-level thermal imaging camera purpose-built for firefighting – designed to bring thermal imaging capability within reach of every crew member. Available from Fire Response as an authorised Australian FLIR distributor, the K2 delivers reliable fireground performance at a practical price point.
The K2 provides 160×120 thermal resolution displayed on a 3″ backlit LCD screen (320×240 display resolution), with FLIR’s MSX® (Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging) technology overlaying key visible detail from the built-in 640×480 digital camera onto the thermal image. The result is a sharper, more contextually readable image that helps firefighters identify structural features, obstacles, and victim locations in smoke-filled conditions.
Single large-button operation makes the K2 straightforward to use under stress with heavy gloves. Seven imaging modes cover the full range of fireground applications: Basic firefighting, Black-and-white firefighting, Fire, Search-and-rescue, Heat detection, Cold detection, and Building analysis.
The K2 is built to withstand the conditions of professional firefighting use – IP67-rated for water and dust ingress, drop-tested to 2 metres onto concrete, and rated for operation up to 260°C (500°F) for 3 minutes, with graduated heat resistance at 150°C for 10 minutes and 85°C for 15 minutes. Battery runtime is approximately 4 hours at typical use.
The K2 carries FLIR’s 2-5-10 warranty: 2 years on the battery, 5 years on the product, and 10 years on the detector.

FAQ
A: Yes – the K2 is capable at a car fire. It will clearly show heat signatures, hotspots, and fire spread through smoke, and its Heat detection mode automatically highlights the hottest areas of the scene. At 160×120 thermal resolution it won’t deliver the fine detail of the K75 or K85, but for initial attack, scene assessment, and victim search at a vehicle fire it performs the core job reliably. Brigades that attend frequent complex vehicle extrications, heavy vehicle fires, or need extended temperature measurement may want to consider the K75 (320×240) or K85 (640×480) for greater thermal detail.
A: MSX (Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging) is FLIR’s patented technology that overlays edge and detail information from the K2’s built-in 640×480 visible camera onto the thermal image in real time. This adds structural context – door frames, windows, walls, labels – to the thermal picture, making it easier to navigate and interpret in smoke-filled environments without switching between views.
A: No. The K2 does not have onboard image storage. It is a real-time viewing camera – the thermal image is displayed live on the 3″ screen but not recorded or saved. If image capture and post-incident review are a requirement, the K75 or K85 include image storage and FLIR Responder App connectivity for that purpose.
A: The K2 and K75 are both purpose-built firefighting TICs, but the K75 offers significantly more capability. The K75 delivers 320×240 thermal resolution versus the K2’s 160×120 (four times as many pixels) for noticeably sharper imagery in complex scenes. The K75 also adds image storage, FLIR Responder App connectivity for live streaming and OTA updates, and updated single-range imaging. The K2 remains a solid entry-level option for departments equipping crews on a tight budget or seeking a lightweight personal camera.
