E-Scooter Fire Blanket

Description

E-Scooter Fire Blanket - Lithium-Ion Battery Safety

E-scooter batteries can present a significant fire risk, particularly while charging, after impact damage, or if a battery develops an internal fault. The E-Scooter Fire Blanket provides a simple and effective way to help reduce that risk – either by covering a parked, charging scooter as a precautionary measure or by deploying the blanket over an e-scooter if a battery fire occurs and safety permits.

Once in place, the blanket helps contain flames, heat, sparks and debris, reducing the likelihood of fire spreading to nearby vehicles, buildings or stored materials.

Designed specifically for e-scooters, it is suitable for a wide range of models and battery configurations commonly found in homes, apartments, workplaces and commercial facilities. E-scooters are commonly charged and stored in apartments, units and shared residential buildings, making fire containment particularly important where evacuation routes and neighbouring properties may be affected.

How it works

  1. Store the scooter in a suitable location and cover with blanket as preventative measure.
  2. Fully cover the scooter with the blanket, ensuring it reaches the ground on all sides.
  3. In the event of a fire, leave the blanket in place and do not attempt to remove it until the incident has been assessed – Note that Lithium-ion fires are at risk of reignition. Call Emergency Services on 000

Important Safety Information

Lithium-ion battery fires can produce intense heat, toxic smoke and hazardous gases. If a battery fire occurs, keep a safe distance, evacuate the area, and contact emergency services on 000.

Specifications

Material: Silicone-coated fibreglass fabric
Temperature resistance: Up to 1000°C continuous, 1750°C short-term
Dimensions: 3m × 4m (other sizes may be available on request)
Weight: Approx. 6.6kg
Reusability: Single use following deployment on an active battery fire
Applications: Homes, garages, apartment buildings, storage areas, workplaces and e-scooter charging locations

Reuse and Disposal

If the blanket has been deployed on an active lithium-ion battery fire, it should be disposed of after use. Hazardous residues from the battery fire may remain on the material, making reuse unsuitable without appropriate handling procedures and personal protective equipment.

E-Scooter Fire Blanket FAQ

The blanket helps contain flames, heat, sparks and debris from a lithium-ion battery incident, reducing the risk of fire spreading to nearby property, vehicles or stored items. This can provide valuable time for evacuation and emergency response.

Yes. The blanket can be placed over a parked, charging e-scooter as a precautionary measure to help contain a battery fire should an incident occur.

For the highest level of protection, the blanket should be placed over the e-scooter while charging. If a battery fire occurs while the blanket is already in place, leave it undisturbed and keep a safe distance. If the scooter is not covered and it is safe to do so, deploy the blanket over the scooter to help contain the incident and contact emergency services on 000.

Always follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions, inspect batteries for signs of damage, charge in a well-ventilated area, and contact emergency services if a battery fire occurs.
